This policy explains what personal data SellGadgets collects when you sell a device to us, how the Company uses and protects it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to our website and any service where you request a quote, book a pickup, or receive payment.
What we collect and why
SellGadgets is a sell-only service. To give you an instant quote, collect your device, verify it, and pay you, we collect the personal data you share with us and some that is generated automatically.
Contact and identity details: your name, mobile number, and email address, so we can confirm your order and stay in touch about the pickup and payment.
Pickup details: your pickup address and pincode, and any landmark or slot preference you add, so our agent can reach you at the doorstep.
Device details: the make, model, storage, condition answers you give during the quote, and the device identifiers we record at pickup, including the IMEI or serial number. These help us confirm the device matches the quote and record ownership transfer.
Payment details: the UPI ID (or bank account details, where you choose that) you provide so we can pay you instantly for your device.
Verification records: photos of the device and, where required to complete a lawful sale, a proof-of-ownership or identity document you agree to share with our agent at pickup.
Usage and device data from our website: for example your IP address, browser type, and pages viewed, collected through cookies and similar technologies. See the section on cookies below.
We collect only what we need to run the service. If you do not provide the details needed for a quote, pickup, verification, or payment, we may not be able to complete your sale.
Lawful basis and how we use your data
We process your personal data on the following bases, as applicable under Indian data protection law: to perform the transaction you asked for (your quote, pickup, and payment); with your consent, which you may withdraw; to meet legal and tax obligations; and for our legitimate business interests such as fraud prevention, quality, and safety, provided these do not override your rights.
We use your data to generate and honour your locked-price quote, so the price you accept online is the price we pay, with no surprise deductions beyond what our published condition terms allow.
We use it to schedule and complete the free doorstep pickup, verify the device against your quote, and confirm ownership before purchase.
We use it to make your payment by UPI or bank transfer and to keep records of the transaction.
We use it to prevent fraud and misuse, for example by checking device identifiers such as the IMEI against reported-lost or stolen-device flags where available.
We use it to provide customer support, resolve disputes, and improve our service, and to send you service messages about your order.
We will send you marketing or promotional messages only where you have opted in or where permitted by law, and you can opt out at any time.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the people and providers needed to complete your sale, and only to the extent required.
Pickup and verification agents: our field agents or logistics partners receive your name, contact number, pickup address, slot, and the device details they need to collect and verify your device.
Payment providers: our banking and UPI payment partners receive the details needed to transfer money to you. Card networks are not involved, as we pay you rather than charge you.
Technology and service providers: for example hosting, communications (SMS and email), analytics, and customer-support tools that operate on our behalf under contract and may process your data only on our instructions.
Legal and safety: government authorities, law enforcement, or advisors where we are required by law, or where sharing is necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims or to prevent fraud.
Business transfers: if the business or its assets are reorganised, merged, or acquired, your data may transfer to the successor entity under the protections of this policy.
Where any provider is located or processes data outside India, we take reasonable steps to ensure your data is protected in line with applicable law.
How we handle the data on your device
The data stored on the device you sell, such as your contacts, photos, messages, and accounts, is your responsibility to remove before pickup.
Before handing over your device, please back up anything you want to keep, sign out of all accounts, remove any activation or anti-theft lock (for example Find My iPhone or a Google account lock), and factory reset the device. A device that still has an active lock cannot be verified and the sale may not proceed.
As a safeguard, we perform a data wipe on devices we buy as part of our processing, but you should not rely on this in place of resetting the device yourself.
We record device identifiers such as the IMEI or serial number as part of the purchase record. We do not access or retain the personal content on a working device except as needed to confirm the reset and complete verification.
How long we keep your data and how we protect it
We keep your personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes described here, and to meet legal, tax, accounting, and audit requirements. Transaction and payment records are typically retained for the period required by applicable law.
Quote and enquiry data that does not lead to a completed sale is kept for a shorter period and then deleted or anonymised.
We use reasonable technical and organisational security measures to protect your data, including access controls, encryption in transit where appropriate, and staff and partner confidentiality obligations. No method of storage or transmission is fully secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you and the authorities of a breach where the law requires.
Transaction and payment records are retained for the period required by applicable tax, accounting and audit laws in India; other personal data is kept only as long as needed for the purposes described above, then deleted or anonymised.
Your rights and choices
Subject to applicable law, you can ask us to give you access to the personal data we hold about you, correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete, or delete data we no longer need to keep.
You can withdraw a consent you have given, opt out of marketing messages, and ask us how your data has been used or shared.
You can nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of your death or incapacity, as provided under Indian data protection law.
To make any of these requests, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before we act, and some data may be retained where the law requires us to keep it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may raise a grievance with us and, where available, with the relevant data protection authority.
